Why Are Children’s Rights Still Not Widely Known?

“Know Their Rights. Protect Their Future.”
Children’s rights are fundamental principles that ensure every child grows up in a safe, healthy, and respectful environment. Although these rights are protected by international agreements, they are still not widely known by large segments of society.
One of the main reasons for this is the lack of emphasis on children’s rights within education systems. While schools often focus on academic success, teaching children about their rights is frequently overlooked. However, a child who does not know their rights may struggle to protect themselves.
Another key factor is the lack of social awareness. Issues such as child abuse and neglect are still considered taboo and are often avoided in public discussions. This silence allows these problems to remain hidden.
The lack of knowledge among parents and educators is also a significant issue. Children’s rights are not only something children should learn—they must also be understood by adults. Protecting children’s rights is ultimately the responsibility of adults.
At this point, non-governmental organizations play a critical role. Through awareness campaigns, educational programs, and international projects, they help spread knowledge about children’s rights. However, for these efforts to be effective, all parts of society must be involved.
Understanding children’s rights is not only an individual matter but also the key to social transformation. A more informed society can provide a safer future for children.
We must remember: protecting children’s rights means protecting the future.
