A Cultural Case: Sports - New Learning Opportunities for Youth Workers

The Erasmus+ Mobility of Youth Workers project “A Cultural Case: Sports” (Project No: 2025-1-AT01-KA153-YOU-000299955) During the following days of the mobility, participants explored the rich sporting traditions of Turkey and France, discovering how traditional games and sports have shaped the cultural identities of their societies. Interactive presentations introduced participants to the historical significance of Matrak, Jeu de Paume, and Petanque, while practical workshops allowed youth workers to experience these traditional sports firsthand.

The programme combined theoretical knowledge with experiential learning, enabling participants to better understand the educational value of traditional sports. By taking part in hands-on activities, youth workers strengthened their intercultural communication skills, exchanged ideas on non-formal education methods, and explored how traditional sports can be used to engage young people in meaningful learning experiences.

Alongside the cultural activities, participants continued their daily sports sessions and environmental awareness initiatives, reinforcing the project's holistic approach that combines healthy lifestyles, sustainability, and intercultural dialogue. These activities demonstrated that sport can serve as a powerful educational tool while promoting inclusion, teamwork, and respect for cultural diversity.

For Kicsi Szívek Gyermekoktatási Központ Egyesület, these sessions provided valuable inspiration for future youth work. The practical methods, cultural experiences, and international exchange of good practices offered new perspectives on using sport as a means of preserving cultural heritage while encouraging young people to become more active, open-minded, and socially engaged.
